Madrigal Singers perform!

The RBHS Madrigals performed at the Hines VA Hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 28. They were asked to sing in the Pastoral Concert Series held this week. The performance took place in the Chapel. Although the audience in the chapel was not large, the Madrigals were televised throughout the chapel. Hundreds of people watched and listened to the concert while in their hospital beds.

The Madrigals will be very active in the weeks to come. Please check the calendar to find out about their upcoming performances.

Weekly Instrumental Update

Musical greatings,

All ensembles are busy preparing for the November 11th, Veterans Day assembly. This has always been a very memorable experience for the RB Music department. Look forward to hearing the orchestral version of the "Stars and Stripes Forever", the band performing "American's We," and "American Salute", and the entire music department on "Armed Forces Salute."

Congratulations to the Varsity Football team who have won their way to the post season! As a result a voluntary pep band will be riding with the team to support them on Friday evening. Any participant will be rewarded two hours of service (remember, all Symphonic band and Jazz Ensemble students are required to serve the music department for 2 hours each semester) Please join us for what promises to be a fun evening!

In case you missed them, please take a look at updates from the last two weeks.

Musically Yours,

Mr. Baum and Mr. McOlgan

Hello All,

What an exciting time to be in the instrumental Music Department!

Tonight, (Tuesday) at 7:00 in the Hauser Auditorium the RB Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble will be performing with the Gross and Hauser jazz ensembles at the annual Hauser Jazz Fest. You won’t want to miss this concert!

Don’t forget, orchestra, jazz ensemble, and symphonic band students need to see two concerts a semester, one has to be an RB ensemble, and the other has to be a college or professional ensemble.

Last Friday was our final home game. Congratulations to the marching band for a very successful season and to Natalie Benoy and Nate Hurst for their terrific work as Drum Majors. Thank you to all the parents who helped distribute marching band uniforms, set up the podiums during the game, and supervise our marching events. We could’t have done it without you!

In case you missed it, check out our band right next to the NIU marching band on youtube! The film was made by a parent from another band, but they were nice enough to include us in the shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ4vuyj3Css

With the end of marching season comes the beginning of concert season. The band and orchestra students are already hard at work preparing their music for the Veterans Day assemblies. We will need parent volunteers to help fit students for their concert uniforms. This year concert uniforms will be stored in school, so we will also need help distributing and collecting the uniforms on concert nights.

In last weeks edition we failed to mention that Kevin Dinh is also a member of the Protégé Philharmonic in addition to Sarah Otmanski and Ben Mitchell, Congratulations Kevin!

IMEA results are in! Congratulations to Kevin Dihn, Ben Mitchell, Madeline Muntean, and Molly Chaney who made the District Band, Kenzo Esquivel who made the District Orchestra, and Elliot Louthen and Jim Sit who made the District Jazz Ensemble. These students underwent a rigorous audition process to be selected for this tremendous honor.

As Always, please keep us posted of any accomplishments you have achieved.

Musically yours,

Mr. Baum and Mr. McOlgan

Hello all,

Friday evening's game will be the last of the regular season, and will be Senior Night. Parents of seniors should meet in front of the stands at 6:15 PM your name will be broadcast from the press box and you will be presented with a flower. A memo has also been sent home with each senior band member.

All Wednesday evening marching band practices have been canceled for the remainder of the year.

For up to date calendar information please visit our fabulous new Fine Arts Department Web site at: http://www.rbhs208.org/FineArts/rbhs_finearts_index.html

By necessity, we will continue to send hard copy permission slips home with each individual student prior to an event.

In keeping with tradition freshmen band students have been invited to perform at “Boo At the Zoo” this Sunday afternoon (a strictly volunteer activity). A permission slip will be sent home with all freshmen tomorrow.

Tri-M will be meeting Tuesday the 13th, at 7:15 AM.

Great News from our musical world!!!
Kevin Dihn walked in this morning with a brand new flute and also performed a perfect chair placement audition.

Sarah Otmanski and Ben Mitchelle are proud members of the Prot Philharmonic. Maddy Muntean is a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. Chris Halline, Kenzo Esquivel, and Alex Krug represent the orchestra in similar groups. Both groups are extremely prestigious ensembles for youth in the area.

Good luck to IMEA auditionies! Tomorrow we will be represented 15 hard working musicians!

Keep us informed and we will include your exciting musical information in the next e-mail!

Musically yours,
Mr. McOlgan and Mr. Baum

Riverside Rallies To Remedy Eyesore

Courtesy of Fox Chicago News - By Nancy Loo, Fox Chicago News

The suburban community of riverside is known for being quaint and picturesque so an abandoned building hardly fits the image. But that's exactly what's become of the historic arcade building in downtown Riverside. A developer went bust due to the recession, forcing a foreclosure. Over the past year, the windows had to be patched up with boards as residents began complaining about such a sad site. While the bank awaits a buyer, the community has rallied to come up with an artistic fix - a series of murals on the building's 18 windows. Art students at Riverside Brookfield High School are teaming with local artists to get it done.
